‘The story-maker…makes a Secondary World which your mind can enter. Inside it, what he relates is 'true’: it accords with the laws of that world. You therefore believe it, while you are, as it were, inside. The moment disbelief arises, the spell is broken…’

I love this letter CS Lewis sent to a young writer, especially this line:

'Much of my best work, or what I think is my best, is the rewriting of things begun years earlier.'

Super excited to join Oz-Stravaganza, the largest and longest-running Oz festival in the world, in Chittenango, NY, L. Frank Baum's birthplace, 5/31-6/2. Come for a copy of THE HEDGEHOG OF OZ, a walk down the yellow brick road, and everything Oz! 👠🌪️🦁🌹🧹oz-stravaganza.com

First on the library's waiting list meant I got to read this today. It was every bit as wonderful as I expected. Happy book birthday, Author Lisa Fipps 🎉🎉🎉

Happy book birthday to YOU'LL BE THERE! I wrote this book a few years after You'll Find Me because that one didn't feel right in all situations. This one is especially for loss of a child, sibling, or friend.

“The writing we call children’s fiction is not a childish thing; childish things include picking your nose and eating the contents, & tantruming at the failure to get your own way…. Children’s fiction has childhood at its heart, which is not the same thing.”

you should get a certain number of “reading days” per year along with your allotted sick days, so that you can phone your boss and say “I can’t come in to work today, I’m reading in bed” and then you spend the day reading in bed

The one drawback of picking the best corner of the house to place your desk is that it makes it kinda hard to get any work done 🌸

I grew up reading the Indian Paintbrush nominees so I could earn a sleepover at the library, hosted by our wonderful librarian, Mrs. Davies. I'm so honored.
