“I can pray and ask God to spare me ‘til it’s all over.

“All I want is justice.”

The disaster cost Bridget McDermott three children, and later her marriage too.

She spoke to Zara King about what the last 43 years have taken out of her.

Gavan Reilly Zara King Heartbreaking to hear that this mother lost three, beautiful children! What a tragedy! So glad that she and the other families have got the verdict they wanted. That they had to wait 43 years for it is a travesty!

Gavan Reilly Zara King People need to realise that in the initial tribunal - arson was the probable cause. This enabled the nightclub manager, Eamon Butterly (son of owner) to claim £580,000 compensation for malicious damage, despite the tribunal deeming him culpable of “recklessly dangerous practice”.

Gavan Reilly Zara King One of the saddest interviews I have ever heard. What a wonderful woman.
Handled in such a caring gentle way by Zara.

Please god Mrs McDermott gets some peace after today 🙏

Virgin Media News Zara King Absolutely heartbreaking.
to have lost 3 children & her marriage, to then go on to suffer & wait 43 yrs to get justice for her family. It’s so wrong. It takes a truly incredible human being to remain so dignified & gracious in the face of such cruel treatment over so many years

Gavan Reilly Zara King The families are so brave unlike the political class. It’s sickening to watch & listen to members of political parties that did nothing for these families speak out now. If this happened in Foxrock it wouldn’t have taken 43 years for justice.

Gavan Reilly Zara King That's a woman that has been broken by unspeakable grief. As a mother of three kids, I'm in awe. How did she keep going? I'd want to pull the duvet over my head and wallow. She's absolutely inspirational. Heartbreaking story. Every mothers nightmare. God bless her.

Gavan Reilly Zara King That poor woman. The took everything from her. Her children, her marriage, a normal life. I hope now she can find peace. It should never have taken 43 years!

Gavan Reilly Zara King That’s just heartbreaking. I hope today brings some comfort to all the families.

The word hero is often over used but these families who kept fighting for justice are the epitome of the word.
