Entities causing habitat-destruction also create heatwaves and thermal injustice. Winds distribute heat by warming in one place and moving hundreds of kms. Lost habitats have large impacts. India felled 6.7 lakh ha of forest in the last 5 yrs, globally 2nd in deforestation.

Groups most exposed to outdoor heat stress are those without access to cooling equipment at home. Without adequate recovery at night, daytime heat stress is even more dangerous.

Any way you cut the pie, thermal injustice in India is caste injustice.

Delhi's 52°C record today is an urban creation. Meteorologists attribute it to 'direct sunlight and lack of shade' along with hot winds from Northwest. This is worsened by ever growing expanses of open concrete, tarmac and brick which increase ambient temperatures by 10 - 15 °C.
