The Government's Fast-track Approvals Bill is an unprecedented assault on #nature and #democracy .

Heartbreaking news this week as the world's coral reefs face mass bleaching💔
This is clear evidence of the devastating impacts #climatechange is having on coastal communities and marine life.
Our CEO Kayla Kingdon-Bebb spoke to Marc Daalder 😷 Wear a Mask at Newsroom on why the new data from cameras on board fishing boats makes a clear case for expanding protections for our threatened seabirds ⤵️
There’s a wonderful piece by Andrea Vance in today’s Sunday Star Times… In which our Minister of Oceans and Fisheries refers to conservation groups in Aotearoa as “green politburo banshees.” Cool. Very mature.

New data from cameras on fishing boats shows us that accidental captures of wildlife have been significantly under-reported.
Cameras on boats are essential for showing us the full impact of commercial fishing on our marine environment.

Given that the sole predator of rāpoka / New Zealand sea lions is actually great white sharks (not killer whales), I’m afraid the Minister is mistaken…
Perhaps DOC could amend the biology info page on rāpoka to include him as well, though?

We are sad to see that James Shaw's Members' Bill, proposing to introduce the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment into NZBORA, hasn't passed first reading. It received support from the Greens, Labour, and Te Pati Maori, but none of the parties in government
“Humans don’t exist independently of other life on earth – we depend on it for our very survival.”
Our CEO Kayla Kingdon-Bebb writes for The Spinoff on why MPs should back a new Bill enshrining NZers’ right to a healthy environment into human rights law.

We join Lawyers for Climate Action NZ 🌏 in urging MPs to vote in favour of amending NZ's Bill of Rights Act to ensure that everyone has the right to a healthy environment.
The climate and biodiversity crises are not only environmental issues - at their core, they are human rights issues too.
Fantastic to join the School Strike 4 Climate NZ movement today in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and see so many young New Zealanders who are passionate about the need for climate justice ✊🌎
