Republican abandonment of Ukraine signals to Taiwan that the U.S. would abandon that ally too. It's a loud declaration that America is cocooning itself, leaving the rest of the world to the mercy of voracious dictators.

Academia really feels like it’s in trouble: the craziness, the administrative bloat, the loss of prestige and authority, the failed sense making, intellectual exhaustion, a shrinking customer base, alienation of donors, reputational harm from politics, terrible leadership.

''Genocide' has become one of those contested words that can only impede communication,' writes Adam Kirsch. 'Rather than illuminating a wrong, all too often it just provokes debate about whether the wrong meets the definition of the word.' wsj.com/politics/is-it… via The Wall Street Journal

I for one am looking forward to this week’s ‘As I sauntered through the streets of London among this highly agreeable crowd of murder-crazed antisemites chanting their peaceful racist slogans I thought what an awful lot of fuss about nothing’ piece.

Wether American liberals and Jews can get rid of the heads of these universities and take over the boards is the question now….

She should be fired just for using the words “my truth”—in addition to, y’know, saying “it depends” when asked if calling for genocide violates Harvard’s code of conduct.

Correct. They suddenly pretended to be free speech absolutists because they happen to like the anti-Semitic messages being chanted.

Notice that the solution proposed by universities to this situation is: 'We need to DEI harder'

The point isn't that universities aren't censoring enough. The point is that they ordinarily censor far too much but suddenly became free speech absolutists when Jews were the target.

He is kind of a 19th century hero if this is correct. Hero of the day. A figure that would have been understandable to Tolstoy or Oscar Wilde or Max Beerbohm

The issue is that FARA violation charges are fundamentally hazy and political and are only used in political cases - accusations of politicized prosecution are inherently correct as half of Washington would go to jail if we
Enforced them

We in 🇺🇦Ukraine simply stick to doing what is right and having a good hope in this war.

We were doing so as half of the world was burying us alive in February 2022, we were doing so as our military defeated Russia at Kyiv, we were doing so as we were persuading the free world…

Russia's push into Central Asia was a continuation of Muscovy's eastwards expansion which began in the 16th century with the conquest of Kazan & subsequent conquests of the lower Volga & Siberia
Central Asia is mostly deserts & mountains, inhabited mostly by nomads & oasis cities
