1975 At 11.30am, North Vietnamese tanks smash through the Presidential Palace gates in Saigon. North Vietnamese Col. Bui Tin accepts the surrender of South Vietnam from Gen. Duong Van Minh. The Vietnam War has ended after almost 20 years of continuous fighting.

1970 President Nixon gives his Address to the Nation to explain his reasons for the ‘Cambodian Incursion’, which began yesterday. He states that the NVA use Cambodia as a sanctuary & staging area for attacks on South Vietnam / US forces & that is why they need to be cleared.

1975 The U.S. Navy starts Operation Frequent Wind to evacuate all US personnel & selected Vietnamese from Saigon Embassy grounds/roof. The final who had been sent to help with evacuation of the Embassy are the very last to leave South Vietnam as the NVA enter Saigon.

1975 Cpl Charles McMahon Jr. (11 days short of 22yrs) & LCpl Darwin Judge (19yrs) U.S. Marines, are the last US troops killed in . They were providing security for the DAO Compound, adjacent to Tân Sơn Nhứt Airport, when NVA rockets struck. Pop A Smoke 🇺🇸 Marine Corps Times

1970 Cambodian ‘incursion’ begins to clear NVA bases. It’s also an attempt to capture communist's COSVN ‘Central Office for South Vietnam’. NVA withdraw before US/ARVN troops can engage. Captured NVA reveal that they knew a couple of days earlier from their spies in Saigon.
