30 Nov 1916 // HM Drifter Eskburn, a Whitby boat in #RoyalNavy service as a net barrier tender, sank off Oldstairs Bay between Deal and Dover after a collision with paddle minesweeper Kylemore. No lives were lost. #WW1

30 Nov 1940 // HM Trawler Chestnut was minesweeping off Portsmouth with another trawler, HMT Ash, when two mines detonated nearby, one close on her port side, the other 100 yards away. The Ash took her in tow but she sank soon afterwards. There were no casualties. #RoyalNavy #WW2

30 Nov 1944 // Frigate HMS Duff struck a mine off Ostend. The mine exploded under her forward boiler room, killing three men and leaving her seriously damaged. She was able to reach Harwich under her own power but was declared a total loss and not repaired. #RoyalNavy #WW2

1 Dec 1916 // HM Submarine E.37 disappeared with all 31 crew after sailing on patrol from Harwich on this day. HMS E.54, off Orford Ness, reported hearing an explosion which may have been caused by E.37 striking a mine, but the cause of her loss remains unknown. #RoyalNavy #WW1

1 Dec 1942 // Minesweeper HMAS Armidale was sunk by Japanese aircraft off Betano on Timor, where she was evacuating troops and civilians. Hit by two torpedoes, she shot down one enemy aircraft before sinking with 98 lives lost. There were 49 survivors. #RoyalAustralianNavy #WW2

At the moment, we have the pleasure of hosting Midshipman Harman Royal Naval Reserve from HMS King Alfred as part of her Initial Sea Training. ⚓️ 📚 Today, the CO and Midshipman Harman exchanged crests to recognise the important relationship between our units. 🤝 🫡

At the moment, we have the pleasure of hosting Midshipman Harman <a href="/RNReserve/">Royal Naval Reserve</a> from <a href="/HMSKingAlfred/">HMS King Alfred</a> as part of her Initial Sea Training. ⚓️ 📚

2 Dec 1917 // HM Trawler Lord Grey, a Grimsby boat in #RoyalNavy service as a minesweeper at Dover, ran aground in a gale near Cap Gris Nez late in the evening. She beat hard on the ground and after about an hour her magazine exploded, causing her to sink hull-deep. [1/2]
