Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu, while meeting the traders on 19th April, 2024, they raised the issue of the computer gadget known as EFRIS. The traders pointed out that many of them are not well educated and cannot use that gadget which will necessitate them to hire

URA is committed to facilitating a fair & efficient tax system & will fully execute your directive on penalties. We appreciate the taxpayers’ commitment to fulfilling their tax obligations

I have asked the traders to give me time to research more and consult the technocrats on all the concerns they raised. I will then meet them all on 7th May, 2024, at Kololo to discuss further.

In the meantime, I have directed that URA refrain from issuing penalties and

I met the leaders of traders from Kampala and other districts at Entebbe.

I listened to their issues, which included:

1. The tax on textiles calculated based on kilograms is high.
2. Manufacturers who engage in wholesale and retail leave no room for traders to do business,

My key takeaway from today's #CapitalGang is that VAT is an indirect tax that is not paid by traders but by us, the consumers, & traders have been collecting it from us but not remitting it to Uganda Revenue Authority. Why shld I pay a tax & u, as a trader, EAT it? EFRIS is to end this theft.
