'I finally have a place to call home'

Genet is one of the over 3,800 internally displaced persons that UNHCR and IOM Ethiopia safely relocated from the overcrowded site of Endabaguna to the Mai-Dimu IDP site in #Tigray .

📍The oldest refugee camp in 🇪🇹, Kebribeyah has been hosting over 18,000 refugees for the past 30 years.

From witnessing refugees’ urgent needs caused by the #Sudan emergency, to seeing refugees’ access to education in Addis Ababa, and farming cooperatives in Melkadida #Somali region, donors shared their “first-hand” impressions of their week-long visit to UNHCR operations in 🇪🇹.

On Day 4, donors were in Melkadida, in the eastern #Somali region. Melkadida shows that even the most remote sites can be the perfect place to innovate. From mixed farming cooperatives to solar powered schools, #refugees are working with host communities towards self-reliance.

Today, we had the privilege to show some of UNHCR Ethiopia‘s key supporters incl. 🇫🇮 🇮🇹 🇩🇪 🇸🇪 🇳🇴 🇱🇺 🇨🇭how we support the Government of #Ethiopia to advance inclusive local development & climate adaptation measures in districts hosting >215,000 refugees from Somalia. Thank you 🙏🏼

UNHCR Ethiopia Andrew Mbogori is in Jijiga, Somali region to meet with Refugees and Returnees Service - RRS, UN agencies and NGO partners working on the ground. Together, we are discussing challenges in our current response and innovative solutions to better assist Somali refugees in the region.
