Dear Community Fibre, isn't it a bit of a waste of resources to send me adverts when you have no intention of making your services available to me?

Thirty years ago today - 6 May 1994 - the Channel Tunnel was officially opened

It's worth pointing out that it cost £4.65 bn, when the estimate was £2.6 bn (1985 prices), an 80% overrun.

But no one thinks about that now - we have a fantastic piece of infrastructure.

Seen yesterday at Walthamstow Central.

It reminded me of a report I found of carriage sign in the 1880s. It said 'Do not put your feet on the cushions', but under it, a passenger had scrawled 'or you will dirty your boots'.

Well look at this! Incidentally, a platform-mounted gap-filler is the wrong solution (if it breaks, that's the platform out of use, whereas if one breaks on a train it's just the train that's out of use) but still... LEGO further ahead on accessibility than the UK government.

'Vivienne Stern, the chief executive of the Universities UK lobby group, said that the sector faced fundamental challenges even after the latest round of aggressive cost-cutting.'

*sigh* cost-cutting has been accepted and all armageddon is labelled is 'fundamental challenges'.

Look out for annoyance in Newham London 💙. I'm not sure if this is the case elsewhere, but I have just voted and they are scanning each and every ballot paper before people vote.

It *is* objectively more appealing than any properly completed election leaflet, though, isn't it?

'We've done 4 issues' is not only drastically less toxic than most of what they put out these days, but also less evasive.

A find: Aston University has taught transport for 50 yrs. Yet, when it was Birmingham Central Technical College it seemingly had a relationship with the London, Midland & Scottish Rly. Here's Henry Fowler, LMS Director of Research&Development, presenting prizes to students (1932)
