Highlight of the reptiles of Lefkada was undoubtedly this amazing Worm Snake (Xerotyphlops vermicularis) which from a distance does look remarkably like a worm!

Came across a 'zombie' Seven-spot ladybird, still twitching but now serving to protect it's host, likely the larva of parasitic wasp (Dinocampus coccinellae). The movement is thought to be induced by venom from the wasp and wards off predators.

Turns out sawfly id is particularly difficult (see previous sawfly post). I like to have a go though and I'm going to stick my neck out with Pachyprotasis rapae for this one, spotted earlier in the week. Andrew Green

I photographed a number of different sawflies species on my walk this week. I thought this was a wasp at first but pretty sure it's a sawfly and possibly Tenthredo atra? 🤔

A small soldierfly, which I think is a male Beris chalybata (note the spines on the scutellum characteristic of this genus).

Loads of ground beetles poking their heads up through the low vegetation and enjoying yesterday's sun. I'm thinking Poecilus cupreus for this one.

First Scorpion Fly I've spotted this year. Female, doesn't have the 'stinger' tail (that the males have that don't actually sting).

It felt almost Spring-like for a short period this morning, something not lost on the insects who came out in good numbers. The odd butterfly around, this Green-veined White (Pieris napi) one of the few I managed to get close to.
