We know that Dakota pipeline protests, Black Lives Matter movement, George Floyd demonstrations, boycott efforts — all have been targeted w/ anti-protest legislation to criminalize tactics used by these organizers & protesters. Most activities are First Amendment protected.

Police are not all prejudiced from go. I’ve worked w/ some good cops to maintain & preserve public demonstrations. But we also know that law enforcement are more likely to become militarized & more likely yo use force when it comes to progressive causes: acleddata.com/2021/05/25/a-y…

My reflection on last night:
We can’t direct service our way out of poverty, nor protest our way to liberation. Now more than ever we need a long-term agenda that builds economic and political power for the people.

Great convo last night at WashU about what we must do to ensure people have power in our democracy. Every day leaders like Jamala Rogers and Ashli Bolden of JWJ are organizing ballot measures to give people a voice and beating back policies that threaten to diminish it in MO.

Jamala: We must continue to organize, but we must be more analytical. We can’t do it in the same way.

Ashli: Many things come down to tax policy so we can have the resources to support our community.

Kia: Our fight for democracy goes hand in hand with fighting white supremacy.
