Good thread by @TheStanislawski on why Ukrainians are fed up with Russian “liberals“ like masha gessen who still spread Russian propaganda about #Ukraine due to their colonial and imperial bias. The New Yorker should amplify Ukrainian voices, especially when it comes to Ukraine.
@TheStanislawski Despite the fact that a) russia itself ranks worse than Ukraine on all international corruption scales (as does e.g. 'respectable NATO partner nation' Turkey), and b) Ukraine is showing marked improvement in this area (during a full scale war, no less!)

Jay Heeze @TheStanislawski masha gessen Nope. That’s just masha gessen distorted worldview.
She should better focus on the major subject of her book and not undertake trips into the unknown to her territory of Ua internal affairs.
That would be more professional
@TheStanislawski Heidi Hadassah Laura masha gessen The New Yorker Western press platforming Russians to talk about Ukraine would be like reviving Himmler to ask him for commentary on the middle east conflict, in particular the state of Israel.
@TheStanislawski masha gessen 'Why on Earth would you think you’re the right person to write on the topic of Ukraine’s internal politics?'
Because she's Russian. This constant meddling into things that are none of their business and loud opinions about things they don't understand is their favourite 'kasha'.
@TheStanislawski Olga Tokariuk masha gessen The New Yorker The idea of a country in this situation. Fighting for its own existence having a smooth functioning political system is absurd
@TheStanislawski russia is a mafia-run kleptocracy that is far more corrupt than Ukraine but for some reason, Ukraine is the one getting it in the neck, time and again. It's important not to gloss over the corruption that does exist in Ukraine, but it's getting better and being fought against
beat of a different drum @TheStanislawski WonderFella🇺🇸❤️🇺🇦 masha gessen The New Yorker This analogy works if you add that the heterosexual person in question is also actively spreading internalized homophobia .
