Getting ready to go see my play in Montreal. Very excited but for some reason I keep thinking about Abraham Lincoln's trip to see a play...

Getting ready to go to Montreal for the opening of my new play OPEN HOUSE. An exploration of cultural marginalization (Black, Chinese, Jewish, Mohawk & Settler) in Canadian history.
And of course it’s a comedy of sorts. I hope.
Tomorrow I tackle the Middle East.

I'm going to Ireland in a few weeks and I feel like starting a fight already.
I bet our little people could beat their little people... in a game of lacrosse.

People talk about the incredible progress between learning to fly in 1903 to going to the moon in 1969. In half that amount of time, First Nations have gone from Residential schools and all its unfortunate luggage, to school boards where Indigenous literature is mandatory.

At a Uof T symposium on literature And diversity. My contribution as an Indigenous writer: culture should be the spice on your creation, never the main course. Or better yet, the story should be the vehicle to carry the culture. Otherwise, nothing happens.
I think.

If an Alien species, or a secret underground civilization were to contact you asking for your suggestion on what one book would best summarize Indigeneity in Canada (fiction or non-fiction), which book would you recommend?
And please, no Harry Potter or 50 Shades of Grey.

Zoomed with a high school class this morning and as usual, the most frequent question I'm asked is 'Which of the books you've written is your favourite?' It's like asking somebody 'which of your kids is your favourite?'
They're all my favourite, except the one that doesn't call.

Keep an eye out for a guy named William Denby. Evidently he's been speaking with our Indigenous Kawartha voice.
We hate it when that happens.

Thinking of adding an office extension on to the house, so my partner won't have to be so quiet while I work at the kitchen table. Then I will officially have a residence three times bigger than the one my grandparents raised 14 kids in.

⭐ Are you enjoying these Season 3 outtakes? Here's another for you! 🎬 Just outside , , Drew learns all about the spear that is still used by Australia’s Indigenous people. This thing is deadly!

Today in 1907, Indigenous athlete Tom Longboat won the Boston Marathon in a record 2:24:24. Coincidently, on several occasions I've beaten that record going up and down the stairs to our basement. Still hoping to beat that two hour mark!

'I will start my new play today!
I will start my new play today!
I will start my new play today!'
But its such a dark and depressing day. It kinda sucks up motivation.
I think there's a Marvel movie on TV
And those chips won't eat themselves.
(pondering)
First thing tomorrow!

Today my partner and I are going out for some pickerel, which I find a small Anishnaabe success as she is Kwakwaka'wakw and has a slavish propensity for salmon.
We don't have to fight as many bears.

For my epitaph, I want written “Here lies the focal point where stories, humour and butter tarts (with raisins) meet.”

Once I used to call myself a writer. Then I started using the term Contemporary Storyteller as I explored mediums. Now perhaps I’ll describe myself as a “multidisciplinary idea and concept manager.”
Or I make things up for a living.

Today in 1876, Canada's parliament passes the Indian Act to administer status and lands of First Nations People. That's a fancy way of saying primarily to assimilate us. Today we're still dealing with the repercussions. It's the colonizer gift that keeps on giving.

Heads up: one week today my new play, OPEN HOUSE, opens at Infinitheatre in Montreal. It's a play about which culture has been the most marginalized in Canadian history...and its a comedy. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll rage against the machine.
I am expecting to be cancelled
