Hey— I miss y'all. And I miss old twitter. But I don't miss what this place has become.

So I'm here for exactly one reason: I have 5 invite codes for bluesky.

If you want one, lmk.

If I get more, I'll share more.

Take care of yourselves. Leave this place if you can.

1- today I found out my g grandpa was a draft dodger and Poland was still looking for him in 1930 3 yrs after he got to the US. Go him!

2- I think twitter might actually be done, and the other place seems v. nice.

If this is truly, truly it— thank you. Much good happened here.

Republicans stole elections through voter suppression and then stole two SCOTUS seats. GOP justices stole the rights of groups already deprived of rights. Republicans complained about rights and elections being stolen from *them* to cover up their robberies.

How they got here.

Because of our collective organizing, this City Council was able to defeat some of this Mayor's most destructive cuts. Despite these victories, I cannot support a budget that adds over $1.85 billion to the NYPD and fails to deliver for my community. Why I voted no 👇

Between the Supreme Court, the Mayor Eric Adams cops-not-care budget, and the human-crafted environmental issues, this is just really not a great day.

And yet, Shabbat will still come.

Please, friends, remember to let yourself rest. We still have so much work ahead.

Spiritual care reminders for the very reasonable rage/grief/despair you may be feeling.

1) Breath will help. Take a deep breath. Let it go. Repeat.
2) If you can scream, feel free to.
3) Check on your friends. A lot.
4) Remember that you can keep fighting.
5) Breathe.

Badly needed right now are personal essays from our White friends who attended elite schools as legacies. Now is the time. Tell America what you know.

Just a reminder that of the Nine Supreme Court Justices who rule over us, FIVE of them were appointed by white Christian dudes who lost the popular vote but got to be President because they won the white Christian vote. This is an illegitimate Court; this is not democracy.

At some point we have to talk about how one third of the Supreme Court was appointed by a guy who is indicted for espionage.

“And we should tell the truth about why diversity is now controversial: Opponents of diversity are opponents of any racial consciousness. They want to prevent us from understanding the ways that the past informs the present” Darren Walker, president of Ford Foundation

The Supreme Court just ruled in favor of a challenge to the White House's student loan cancellation plan.

They ruled against a legal and appropriate cancellation plan. And they ruled against the 44 million people in America who are burdened by student loans.

It’s important to remember that during the time student loan payments have been paused, prices on consumer goods have steadily increased. When folks start making payments again, it will be in a different economy, where it’s already harder for regular people to afford their lives.

When I was in high school I wrote a speech about why affirmative action was bad. I didn't understand systemic racism then. I learned. That the highest court in our land operates with the limited logic of my 16-year-old self tracks with America's roots, and it's damning.

If SCOTUS was serious about their ludicrous “colorblindness” claims, they would have abolished legacy admissions, aka affirmative action for the privileged.

70% of Harvard’s legacy applicants are white. SCOTUS didn’t touch that - which would have impacted them and their patrons.

The Supreme Court's decision to strike down affirmative action, including in professional schools, like medical and nursing, will have detrimental consequences on Black health for generations to come. This is about life & death for us. Today, we are only 5% of physicians.

On Yom Kippur this year I will definitely need to atone for the sin of forgetting to pack a lunch far too often and therefore spending far too much money on sweetgreen 😬😁🥗
