When I spoke at Wellcome Trust workshop two weeks ago I told delegates that we've demonstrated that genomes of African plant & animal species can be sequenced on-the-ground in Africa, & that African scientists can be targeted at scale as we are doing with workshops & Fellowships

It was around this time in 2020 that I built 1st website of African BioGenome Project using WordPress & called for the 1st stakeholder meeting as I couldn't fund a dynamic website. Yesterday we confirmed the species that will be sequenced by the AGC - African BioGenome Project AfricaBP Open Institute Fellows in May 2024. Ten African scientists from 10 African countries will turn up in Morocco in May 2024 for 2 weeks for the maiden edition of this Fellowship.

It's ironical to say we want to conserve species Y from DR Congo but the sequencing is done over 4000 nautical miles from DR Congo. How many people live in London but their GP is in Edinburgh? There is a reason why you have a GP nearest to your house so you can be better served.

After I posted 5 questions I've had in African genomics & recommendations I made during Wellcome Trust workshop, I received phone call from leader of one of scientific bodies of the African Union wanting to learn more about these recommendations; they found them useful for Africa
