The big tent demand is the same as that of OxFam, HRW, MSF, 95% of counties on earth which a ceasefire for Gaza and an end to daily mass killing. This is a baseline. groups differ over what’s after this but people need to stop acting their primary demand is inscrutable or fringe

Divestment is one strategy to achieve this short term end, and longer term the demand is to end the occupation and siege that maintains an unacceptable pre-10/7 status quo. One does not need a 15 point roadmap for a century of peace to demand Biden end the daily mass slaughter

The rest of the student body was basically dormant. This group of students wasn’t just peaceful, they slept outside without tents, following a rule that didn’t even exist just to try to keep dialogue open with the university. Nothing about this had to happen.

None of these folks showed up when I lived on campus and white supremacists with tikki torches yelling “Jews will not replace us” marched through campus as I hid my three kids.

The police are now violently assaulting students UVA. Students are getting tear gassed.

'You can't just drop Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Prozac on large communities who've experienced this structural violence for such a long time and expect the trauma to be mitigated or to get better. It's much more complicated.'

Ghannam's empirical findings from places like Shatila and Khan Younis are devastating: some 80% of Palestinian kids there showed signs of PTSD; nearly half had witnessed the death of a friend. And this was in the '90s and early '00s.

'Things got so profoundly worse in Gaza after the 2005 blockade ... The children stopped playing. The trauma was so deep and so intense, and so unremitting, that their capacity and the ability to play was severely curtailed. That got me thinking about, well, how do we intervene?'

'Am I going to bring a kid in and do play therapy? When there's only one psychiatrist for 1.5 million Palestinians? Are we going to administer medications? ... No, we have to create spaces for children where they can come and be children, so that they can engage in play.'
