Coaches create the culture that drives the behavior of players.

A year ago, I believed in the vision @ CU.

But one year into the effort, what do their actions demonstrate? What does the evidence say?

Once can be an exception.

Twice is intent.

Thrice is identity until proven otherwise.

Productive people simplify & execute.
They refuse to let complexity prevent productive action.

Unproductive people complexify & delay.
They insist on complexity that justifies delaying execution.

95% of a competitor’s attention goes into what it takes to win.

But what you do after you win (or lose) might be even more important.

Because whether you win or lose, life moves on. Next game. Next obstacle. Next level. Next stage.

Everything you think, decide, and do after

Disagreement does not have to create disconnection. Good people can disagree on an important topic and still respect and care for each other, whether they are close friends or total strangers.

A team reflects coaching leadership more than player leadership:

• No accountability in coaches, no accountability in players.

• No composure in coaches, no composure in players.

• No listening from coaches, no listening from players.

Two words keep me honest and humble.

Whoever I say I am,
Whatever I say I’m going to do,
I constantly remind myself of these two words:

Prove it.

Don’t just say it . . . prove it.
Don’t just do it . . . prove it.

Whatever my priorities are.
Whatever standards I believe in.

Setting high standards isn’t unique.

Living them is.

How I keep myself from being closed-minded:

A closed mind is the consequence of arrogance. An open mind is the consequence of humility.

Only arrogance feels threatened by humility. Arrogance closes my mind to protect my ego.

Humble people consider alternative perspectives,

“Kids today lack discipline!”

Uuhhh . . . when did kids have discipline?

It’s our responsibility to teach them.

But before that, it’s our responsibility to show them the model of discipline. And that is the core issue and bigger problem.

Responsibility and discipline are inseparable.

There is no way to raise responsibility without elevating discipline. There is no way to elevate discipine without raising responsibility.

Low discipline is a lack of responsibility.
Low responsibility is a lack of discipline.

Excellence can come from two sources:

1. Your nature that is already within you.

2. The skills you build into yourself.

So many people spend their lives investing in the second source while failing to recognize, appreciate, cultivate, or activate the first.
