@TBehindTheGlass I sometimes get this but seemingly not to the same extent. I will often not recognise someone at first because they are at a location I don’t expect them to be. Probably totally unrelated but I often think I recognise someone but it isn’t them then a few minutes later meet them!

@TBehindTheGlass That’s to do with object permanence. Sarah Hendrickx talks about this in relation to autistic adults.

@TBehindTheGlass Very cool! Great name! :) We have a series of rabbit warrens in the neighborhood that only recently became active again. When I was little there were always rabbits about.

@TBehindTheGlass MxOolong When I first moved some distance from home, in my 20s, phoning my mother was terrifying because her disembodied voice challenged my basic sense of myself in the world.

@TBehindTheGlass hm. well i know stuff doesn't physically disappear when i leave. it just disappears emotionally. or sometimes, i actually feel like pieces of my identity / myself disappear or are lost when i leave a place / person.

@TBehindTheGlass hm. now i wonder whether it's perhaps related to a kind of sensory 'hyperfocus' – like, the here and now filling our senses up so intensely that nothing else gets in / everything else fades?
