CALL TO ACTION: I need all of your help.
There is a black box warning on low dose vaginal estrogen (VE) products. See below. It states, 'warning: endometrial cancer, cardiovascular disorders, probable dementia.' Low dose VE has NEVER been show to cause any of the above.

This lab quotes data from the WHI (Women's health initiative study). The data quoted is problematic in general, but most importantly, was based off studies giving women hormones at MUCH HIGHER DOSES than topical vaginal treatments.

This labeling is extremely harmful because it is 1) scientifically incorrect, 2) scares patients from using a potentially live saving & safe medication. It would be like an OTC 1% hydrocortisone cream having a warning label that it could cause Cushings or diabetes.

But don't take my word for it. The North American Menopause Society (now 'The Menopause Society,') petitioned the FDA YEARS ago to modify this labeling. The FDA did nothing. Read at: (or below) menopause.org/docs/default-s…

Now this is where I need your help! A wonderful urologist, Dr. Charles Powell, has been speaking with several congresspeople to set up meetings with the FDA to revisit this issue and get the labeling changed.

The scientific argument was made back in 2018 & it did not move the needle. We need the FDA to know that THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT & that the American people give a shit about accurate comms for topical vaginal hormone products.

So my ask is the following- please like this thread, repost it, post it on other social media platforms, comment that you care, or that VE has improved the lives of your patients or someone you love, or your own life.

Share a story about how yourself, or a patient, or someone you know didn't use VE because of this confusing & inaccurate labeling. Share a story of a woman in menopause or perimenopause who DIED or suffered with urinary infections that could have been prevented with VE.
