Oxford Chemistry University of Oxford AstraZenecaUK AstraZeneca And the much-awaited first prize goes to...
¿Hola, ketal? from The Gaunt Group Cambridge Chemistry Cambridge University! Congratulations! 🎉🎉🎉
The third prize goes to SynCity 2000 from Oxford Chemistry University of Oxford. Congratulations, team for your excellent work!
Here are the winners!
Firstly, our audience prize voted for by those in the room went to Friday Serenade, the first year undergraduate team from Imperial Chemistry Imperial College London! Very well deserved prize! 🏆
University of Glasgow Chemistry University of Glasgow Pharmaron Last but not least, 'A Payne in the Rearrangement' (personally that's gotta be my fave team name) from GSK @strathChem University of Strathclyde #UKRetroComp
University of Glasgow Chemistry University of Glasgow Team 'The Odds Are Stacked In Our Favorskii' from Pharmaron bring in a cyclopentanol with (no surprise) a Favorskii rerrangement, then with a carbonylative cross-coupling cascade and in 21 LLS they form cinnamomol B #UKRetroComp
Next team 'Nickel My Fancy' has some clever base metal-mediated cross-coupling reactions used to build up their main fragments University of Glasgow Chemistry University of Glasgow #UKRetroComp
This team of first years is SO GOOD I am losing my actual mind. Has anyone looked into whether they are professors in disguise #UKRetroComp
Charles River Labs Imperial College London Imperial Chemistry Imperial College London has a team entirely composed of first year undergraduates 🤯 An Adler-Becker dearomatization was followed by several reductions to produce multiple stereocentres in a convergent synthesis #UKRetroComp
Next was Team 'If you like Pinacol-adas' from Charles River Labs. The team presented a great convergent synthesis and cyclizative cathodic reduction of a gamma-keto-allene to a decorated trihydroxycyclopentene #UKRetroComp
Sygnature Discovery's team 'Diels-Alderley Park' showed a couple of choice cycloadditions in their synthesis #UKRetroComp
The final team of the morning's session was SynCity 2000 from Oxford Chemistry University of Oxford They proposed a multiply oxidative cascade to form much of the core of cinnamomol B #UKRetroComp
Cambridge Chemistry Cambridge University Our next team is from Syngenta UK - they showed a route with dithiane coupling followed by a reductive SmI2-mediated coupling step. #UKRetroComp
Our second presenters (no particular order!) are ¿Hola, ketal? from Matthew Gaunt's group at Cambridge Chemistry Cambridge University. They had an efficient, 19-LLS route to today's molecule with a high-pressure Diels-Alder #UKRetroComp
SCI – Where Science Meets Business💡 RSC_HSG SCI Young Chemists SCI Fine Chemicals Group First up, Team 'Oops!... I Oxygenated Again' from @AstraZenecaUK Macclesfield showed their synthetic prowess including a series of early oxygenation steps and a Pauson-Khand #UKRetroComp
Thanks to SCI – Where Science Meets Business💡, RSC_HSG, SCI Young Chemists, SCI Fine Chemicals Group for organizing the competition! 🎉🎉
The chemists are piling into SCI, ready for the 11th UK National Retrosynthesis Competition! I'll be live-tweeting today's event UK Retrosynthesis Competition all day! soci.org/events/young-c…
I'm not back on Twitter in my personal life - but today I'll be live-tweeting the UK National Retrosynthesis Competition #UKRetroComp from the UK Retrosynthesis Competition account all day. The teams' work is always excellent so please follow along! #chemtwitter
