One of the most popular events for Calgary football fans - FanFest - is back and the Stampeders invite everyone to the event on Saturday at McMahon Stadium 10 am to 2 pm. Fans can enjoy many activities, meet GM/Head Coach Dave Dickenson and players, get a photo with the Grey Cup.

Calgary fans get their first chance to see Stampeders in action with the annual Red and White Game on Sunday at 3 pm at McMahon Stadium. It will be offence against defence in game scenarios plus special teams situations. The event is free and fans enter from east side entrances.

Darren Dutchyshen, who hosted SportsCentre and CFL Live with TSN for 3 decades, has died at 57. ‘Dutch,’ as he was known, was born in Regina and raised in Porcupine Plain, Sask. He started with TSN in 1995 and was well known for his CFL presence and sense of humour. 🇨🇦🏈📺

Calgary Stampeders released 10 players today, placing them at the CFL roster limit of 75. They also have 15 Canadian rookies who don’t count against the limit for a total of 90 in camp.

Larry Robinson was a Canadian Football Hall of Fame DB and kicker with Calgary Stampeders 1961-1974. In 14 years, Larry played all 224 season, 34 playoff and 3 Grey Cup games for team record 261 consecutive games. He is also in Alberta Sports Hall of Fame & Stamps Wall of Fame.

Kicker J.T. Hay and Assistant Coach Stan Schwartz chat during Calgary Stampeders practice in 1980. Hay played 1979-88 and Schwartz coached for 8 years before going to the front office for 3 decades including president. Both are on Stamps Wall of Fame. Schwartz is also in CFHOF.

This plaque was awarded to Calgary Stampeders’ James Walker by Canadian Football Players Association for being part of the CFL’s Best Defensive Line in 1986. Walker recorded 31 defensive tackles, one pass knockdown, one forced fumble and 7 sacks playing just 11 of 18 games.

Check out Calgary and Central Alberta Heritage School Fair until 1 pm today at the Hangar Flight Museum. There are 90 great displays by junior high students in different categories on the history of Alberta and Canada. I was asked to do a display on Calgary Stampeders history.

Calgary Stampeders’ former player, current GM/Head Coach Dave Dickenson has taken out his Canadian citizenship. Dave, who came to Canada and Stampeders in 1996 from his native Montana, will retain his US citizenship but is “proud” to become a Canadian as well (Stampeders photos).

Pete Thodos (27) and John Henry Johnson (35) were stars of Calgary Stampeders’ offence in 1953. Thodos, who scored winning TD in 1948 Grey Cup, led Stamps with 795 receiving yards, 991 total off. Johnson led team with 648 rushing and 1013 total. Thodos had 10 TDs, Johnson had 8.

Canadian QB Nathan Rourke will be placed on waivers by New England Patriots, according to 3Down Nation and other sources, and is is looking for another NFL job. He just signed a one-year deal in early March. Rourke starred with CFL’s B. C. Lions 2 years ago before heading south.
