🎉The SFMTA Board unanimously supported the proposed locations for SF's 33 speed cameras today!

We're one big step closer to these lifesaving cameras being on the streets in early 2025.

Thanks to all who gave public comment with us. We need to ASAP!

OPINION: 'With its 56 miles of protected bike lanes, San Francisco already has the makings of a city primed for e-bikes. Now is the moment for the city to supercharge its momentum,' writes Dana Yanocha, senior research manager for ITDP. trib.al/25al4pX

At right: Ethan Boyes’s ghost bike, marking the spot where he was killed.

At center: a white car illegally parked.

At left: a man on bike thus forced toward oncoming traffic.

The trustees of Presidio of San Francisco are to blame.

They broke their promise of a “protected” bike lane.

New SFGATE report on Slow Streets—and SFMTA’s continuing, inexplicable neglect of Slow Lake.

SFMTA hasn’t even *measured* Lake traffic for 15 months.

Lake is clearly out of compliance with the 1000/car day metric.

Why have metrics if you don’t measure?

US roads are so badly designed that walking, an activity fundamental to human health and development which imposes neither risks or costs, requires the situational awareness of a hunted gazelle. It should be safe to walk drunk, tired, old, sick or with a disability or impairment.

Mayor London Breed, March 28: “We need…more opportunities for people to be together. Our public spaces should not only be safe but create joy.”

Two kinds of urban streets do that best: car-free and car-light ones.

Expand and protect them everywhere.

How San Francisco can address its roadway crisis and transform streets:

1️⃣ Treat our roadway safety crisis like the emergency it is

2️⃣ Implement solutions proven to help people shift trips away from cars

3️⃣ Streamline and fast-track approval and implementation of improvements

Joined the SF Bike Bus today: kids and parents biking to school together, safely.

The Netherlands knows: Cities are cleaner and safer when people bike. And people are healthier and happier when they bike.

Thank you Luke Bornheimer for for having us!

Terrible. And not just any residential street, Luke Bornheimer, but the vaunted 8th Avenue “Neighborway,” which, like so many SFMTA projects, got watered down.

Here is a result.

This “Neighborway” is indistinguishable from any other Richmond avenue.

Endless process—for what?
