Although you can see Puffins arriving with fish at any time of day, more birds arrive between 0530 and 0730 at this time of year

All of the data from the first daylight hours Puffin watch is now in. There were fewer fish losses at the colony than during any other watch in the last 12 years, whilst more of our study burrows contain Pufflings than ever before by this date

We're well into the first daylight hours Puffin watch of the year and it is confirming what we already suspected, that this is the earliest breeding season on record, running about 12 days earlier than the 2013-2023 mean

Despite the wet windy weather on Skokholm Island at the end of April, I still went out to photograph and enjoy the puffins. The island is just as beautiful in the wild weather 😍

My last day has come too quickly. Gathering sketches as fast as I can whilst the mist swirls around me, gulls chortle to each other, an oystercatcher ‘peep peeps’, and seals call below. Love love this special place Skokholm Island

There was a Storm Petrel singing in there again last night

It has been a cracker of a day, with a Storm Petrel singing from Petrel Station II, the one-way glass burrow in the Crab Bay Puffin Hide containing a Puffling and now a Nightingale around the Cottage

We just watched the very vocal chick emerge from its half egg. Both adults in attendance #bestdayever

Incredibly emotional watching this Guillemot lay its egg today, alone on a ledge which once contained tens of birds. It's looking like bird flu may have taken at least 30% of our Guillemots, this egg our hopes for the future
