The first casino on the (eventual) Strip was the Red Rooster - licensed April 1, 1931. It's also the 1st to lose their license..it was revoked in July, 1931 after prohibition agents busted the place for selling booze. The Mirage sits on the site now. 📸s UNLV Spec Coll

The first appearance of a neon Vegas Vic was on the 'Here It Is!' sign installed in 1948 on the rooftop of 32 Fremont across the street from the Pioneer Club . The full body version would be installed in 1951. This version was demolished in the mid 50s. 📷s UNLV Spec Coll

Hotel Nevada at 1 Fremont St at DTLV circa 1912. Now the site of Golden Gate Hotel & Casino & entrance to Fremont Street Experience. The Hotel Nevada holds the distinction of having the 1st telephone in LV. Its number was fairly easy to memorize. It was 1.

Marina Hotel Casino closed on November 30, 1990. In 1989, it was purchased by MGM, and most of the original structure was demolished, except for the hotel tower. The tower was then integrated into the new MGM Grand

Hughes Executive Air Terminal in the late 1960s. Hughes bought the airfield on LV Blvd near Sunset Rd in 1967 from Alamo Airways owner George Crockett & turned it into airport for private planes.

Joe Brown was the 1st of 6 law clerks in Clark County. During his year as a law clerk he met Bob Maheu, who served as Howard Hughes’ right-hand man, Hughes died April 5, 1976

Pat Price died in the Sands July 14, 1975
