It has been lovely to meet some new families and also see some familiar faces during our recent stay and play sessions. We hope everyone who joined us enjoyed them too!

Class Droplets were visited by Mr Wordsworth this week, he has an excavation business. The children loved watching videos, looking at images and learning what skills they need to learn for this industry. Thank you so much for joining us and for the new construction toys.

Earlier this week our Year 4 and Year 2 classes were joined remotely by one of the STEM ambassadors from STEM Learning They talked to the children about what they do for a job and how an interest in science, technology, engineering or maths can be used in this industry.

Class River was visited by Jonathan, Corporate Sales Manager for @sytner Leeds. First, he talked about how cars are made and where the audi factories are in Europe. Then we went outside to look at the hybrid car that he brought with him. The children asked some lovely questions

Class Brook were visited by Carrie-Ann, Marketing Manager for Holdroyd Homes. She told us all about the different types of jobs that are linked to the construction industry. We loved looking at the site maps and watching the video from inside a recent local build! Thank you

Ocean class had a visit from Richard, mechanical engineer. It was so interesting to hear about the different types of engineering and the process that designs go through, as well as looking at things that had been made using 3D printers. Interest was high in this session!

Class Brook have been looking at an aerial photograph of our School and identifying areas that we know. We then had a go at drawing out own! It is tricky to think about how things look from above!

Whilst investigating the five senses, Class Brook felt objects in a feely bag and then we went on a senses walk to identify the environment - what we could hear/taste/smell/touch and see.

Part 2 of 2 Class Ocean - They thought about the shape of the supports to make their rockets sturdy and tried to make them more streamlined to reduce air resistance. We had lots of successful launches and a few close calls! Mrs C was kept on her toes.

Ocean class ended Science Week with a BANG…or a FIZZ at least! The children made bottle rockets to demonstrate the irreversible change that occurs when you combine vinegar with bicarbonate of soda. PART 1 of 2 posts πŸš€ πŸ”΅ 🟑 🌊

A big thank you to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service who visited Shelley to talk to Y5 about fire prevention and how to stay safe. We all learnt something new about simple things we can do to reduce the risk of fire at home, like closing all doors at night and not leaving anything charging overnight.
