#Flashback to Roho enjoying the comforting last droplets of milk – so much in fact, he keeps suckling long after the contents are drained! He’s now living at our Ithumba Unit where he’s being slowly weaned ahead of a life back in the wild. His story: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/roho
#Throwback to a very tiny Mwinzi revelling in the dust bath. At the time, this little bull was only around 6 months old. He’d just been rescued 2 months prior & was still settling in: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/mwinzi
Found alone in Sept 2022, Muridjo was rescued by Ol Malo rangers as her health deteriorated. We flew in & scooped her up, bringing her into the safety of our Nursery. Aided by dedicated care from our Keepers, who lavish her with love, she’s thriving: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/muridjo
Again & again, we witness the incredible instincts of elephants. A recent op to treat orphan Barsilinga, who returned home for help, is a powerful reminder of their intuitive abilities & testimony to the capacity for trust they have in those who earn it: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/b…
The ‘Voi Kids’ are a remarkable group of orphans rescued at a slightly older age & brought directly to our Voi Unit for recovery - skipping the Nursery stage! Adopters might be familiar with Epiya’s story: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/r…. We hope to introduce you to the others soon!
Meet Dololo, Musiara & Naboishu, 3 orphans that have recently rejoined the wild! Their attachments to their former Keepers (& still-dependent orphan friends) remain strong so we get to see them from time to time. Learn about our reintegration process: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/projects/orpha…
One decade. That’s how long it can take to raise an orphaned elephant from rescue to re-wilding. Our Keepers accompany them every single step of the way. Wherever you are in the world, you can support an orphaned elephant’s journey through an adoption too:

Our heart aches when we consider the suffering Ashanti experienced before her rescue. But she is resilience personified, finding workarounds to browse & drink successfully with her partially severed trunk. Read her story & see the obstacles she's overcome: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/ashanti
