At just a month old, Zurura was orphaned. Falling into a ruby mine overnight, the next morning, miners heard his cries. They named him Zurura (Wanderer). Today, he's much bigger & wanders wild! Fortunately for us, he stays in touch, visiting occasionally. sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/zurura
Talek must have been so lonely before her rescue. The brave girl tried to fend for herself, bravely seeking safety from a big bull. Certain she was an orphan, authorities allowed us to rescue her. Now she'll spend the rest of her life surrounded by love: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/talek
Spotted – but difficult to spot – leopards are notoriously elusive. Often our pilots are graced with the greatest sightings, but our field teams also work hard to save injured individuals - as our pilot explains here: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/s… #InternationalLeopardDay
All pooped out after a long week? So is Toto! His night-time stable offers a safe & secure spot to rest his head, & a bounty of greens to eat throughout the night (alongside three-hourly bottles of milk). Discover this young orphaned elephant calf’s story: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/toto
You can’t help but fall trunk over toes in love with Mokogodo. Just ask her coterie of adoring fans! She has a queue of older orphans at herd beck & call, wanting to escort her everywhere. Fall in love with this long-lashed beauty this #FosterFriday : sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/mokogo…
This #FlashbackFriday , we revisit blanket-clad Musiara & Sattao heading down for their first mud bath (a milestone moment for any orphan in our care). In a sign of his success, here’s Sattao splashing about in the Ithumba mud bath a few years later! His story:…
Harassing the warthogs is a time-honoured tradition for the Nursery orphans. This is Sattao ( #Throwback to 2017). Our current mischief-makers are Muridjo, Nyambeni, Mzinga & Shujaa who love to thunder after warthog families that live by the Nursery, trumpeting away in excitement.
Poor Toto! All he wanted was his milk but Mayan was trying his hardest to steal his bottle. A reminder the crafty orphans aren't above a bit of skull mischief when it comes to the precious formula milk! Fortunately sweet Toto doesn’t seem to mind. sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/toto
This fragile calf is Lili, Loijuk’s first wild-born baby. In 2019, we had the honour of meeting this bundle of joy for the 1st time when Loijuk bought her to meet us. Fast forward to last month & Loijuk repeated the tradition with her newest calf, Lisha: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/l…
