Gil-galad received the Kingship of the Noldor in F.A. 510, when Gondolin was lost and Turgon died.
Beside the refuge upon Balar, he and Círdan also maintained the small, hidden port at the Mouths of Sirion, where refugees from Nargothrond, Doriath, and Gondolin.
