Time and time again, we are utterly appalled by the cruelty of Southwark Council. They don’t even pretend to care about the lives and livelihoods of the residents who pay their salaries. The case for negotiation is becoming increasingly weak, while active lawsuits grow stronger.
Was good to talk to Miatta Fahnbulleh this week about the upcoming regulation of heat networks. Stories like these underline how the current situation, with no regulation, is untenable.
I now pay Barking and Dagenham Council £11,000 per year. Broken down monthly. Council tax: £186 Service charge: £550 B&D energy (council company) £220 My mortgage is only £896, meaning the council costs me more than my home, every month. Tell me again the affordable housing program is
Is it just me or is this not the abolition of leasehold at all? All very well for new flats from now on, but that’s a tiny proportion of homes. What about the millions of existing leasehold properties? Govt admits there will still be “residual” leasehold. theguardian.com/money/2025/mar…
