Happy World Curlew Day! Love them, protect them, celebrate them. 💚 Curlew Action 📷 Andrew McAlister
I think it's not only important to celebrate Curlews on #WorldCurlewDay but also the people helping to save them! At #SAVCurlews , we're so lucky to have Curlew legend Mike Smart helping us with farmer liason, an important aspect of our project 🪶
Wetland Word of the Week 🌿
SCURVY GRASS is a plant found on our saltmarsh. Its high vitamin C content meant it helped to prevent scurvy which is where it gets its common name. It is very bitter and actually not a grass at all but a relative of cabbage!

We're celebrating our partners SWAROVSKI OPTIK, who have been supporting our work to unlock the power of wetlands in Madagascar!
By re-establishing natural vegetation in Lake Sofia with local communities, we're helping to restore the depth of this vital Convention on Wetlands site 🌿

Sun shone on visit to WWT Steart Marshes yesterday with Matthew Gould of ZSL to talk species recovery, conservation breeding, working together. Marsh marigolds were stunningly yellow, sorry no photo! But did get one of gloves, restoring wetlands means getting muddy.
BIG NEWS! We’ve received more than £800,000 from the government’s #SpeciesSurvivalFund 🙌
Thanks to this funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Defra UK, we’ll be able to restore and improve hundreds of hectares of wetland habitat at WWT Steart Marshes.
