This is a great opportunity to have a proper conversation about the framework within which all charities work - and to discuss the current stresses and strains....

Another great Windsor Leadership Question Time (which I was pleased to chair) with excellent panellists - Sarah Healey, Tan Ikram and Elizabeth Corley - and a fully engaged audience, ready with lots of good questions!

I'm very pleased to be supporting Jim Ronaldson (boatman for University College Oxford) doing the most amazing thing of double-sculling across the Atlantic. And for an important charity: Never2Late gofund.me/e3857eb2

#SHS #MNWB #merchantnavy #seafarershealth #lifeatsea I was delighted to be given this Award last night. A proud moment for myself (... and for the Nairne family which has been involved in the important work of the Seafarers Hospital Society for 200 years).

Want an Easter tweet? This year its 31st March. Lord Desborough fought with steely determination to get a fixed date and succeeded with the Easter Act, 1928. But no government has put in place a commencement order. It remains the oldest piece of legislation still on the shelf!

Peter Williams (@profpwilliams) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Desborough’s fight to fix the date is detailed in a new biography “Titan of the Thames”. The Archbishop of Canterbury has supported the change (in 2016) suggesting it would be in place within 10 years. Time is running out!

His Act shrank the current 35 day range to a more modest few days. Seemingly the issue is getting different churches and others to agree but has anyone tried recently?

As you can imagine I'm honoured to be following Chris Smith as the next Chair of Art Fund Art Fund; and I look forward, later this year, to be supporting Jenny Waldman and her team in their excellent work across the visual arts sector.

Have you heard of Lord Desborough? LD or William Grenfell was an unlikely oarsman. He’d been a very fast runner at school but only started rowing at Oxford University. Within 18 months he found himself on the start line for the 1877 Boat Race 🧵 Sandy Nairne Peter Williams
