Sadly I think Luigi Scazzieri is right: the EU's new migration pact is unlikely to work.
Facts and feelings. The economic burden of Ukraine aid is more than manageable for the US, EU, UK.
As Martin Wolf put it so well: 'The argument that this is unaffordable is ridiculous. These sums are dwarfed by those spent on energy subsidies in Europe and on earlier US wars.'

Important point by Sander Tordoir - The EU is biased towards using tariffs as its main industrial policy tool (though WTO compatibility is still needed). The issue is that, from a climate perspective, a big tariffs-small subsidies approach seems like the worst of all options.

In the EV trade war, this chart from Chad Brown, via a paper by Shahin Vallée Albert Pinto is so telling. The US shutting out China, whilst remaining open to EU exports, is benefitting European car exporters. EU EV exports to China meanwhile are growing only very tepidly.
