Looking like a hung Parliament in Australia with Labor the biggest party. Could take a while to sort out a Government.

One really interesting feature of this election are the so-called 'teal' independents. Look likely to win a few seats off the Liberals (basically our Conservatives) in rich, high-grad, seats + could hold balance of power. Running on integrity in politics plus climate change.

Now v likely that Labor will form the govt and may squeak a majority. There are real overlaps here with how I think our next election might go. Labor were supposed to be vulnerable in the type of seats we'd call red wall but have held them. Liberals losing 'blue wall' seats.

But also Labor are losing votes to Greens and independents too. Just as happened in the locals here. (Obvs can't draw parallels too tightly - lots of different context - but interesting nevertheless.)

Many right wing parties just completely failing to respond to the rise of the liberal graduate class in their traditional seats. abc.net.au/news/2022-05-2…

One consistent thing we're seeing across multiple different elections in very different countries is Green parties doing well. Climate change finally becoming a mainstream political campaigning issue.

Another point of possible read across is the right wing press - including all the Murdoch owned media - sided strongly with the Liberals and used their usual array of tactics. And it didn't work.
