Today it was all about sea lions, marine iguanas and albatrosses on Española Island, only reopened after closure due to avian flu on May 11th. The sea lions showed off their skills underwater as we snorkelled around them. The iguanas and albatrosses were oblivious to us.

Another full day in the Galapagos, starting at 6.00am with a hike around Floreana, deep snorkelling at Devils Crown (remains of a volcano crater) where we saw thousands of fish, sharks, rays. Then a beach walk, more snorkelling. The day ended with a glimpse of a sunset.

Yesterday it was tortoises. Today it was pacific green turtles. Swimming around our boat and feeding on the sea floor as we snorkelled. Flamigoes for which Floreana Island is famous were too far away; only three were evident. So some blue footed boobies and a spider will suffice.

Today’s roundup. Giant Galapagos dome tortoises, marine iguanas and a curious mockingbird. The Galapagos must be the only place in the world where the curious animals come to check you out. Several close encounters today with curious sea lions.

A full day in Galapagos at Genovesa Island aka Charles Darwin Island. Just reopened after closure due to avian flu so we are lucky. A small selection on the many photos I took. Red footed booby, swallow tailed gulls mating, Galapagos sea lions (we snorkelled with), lava heron.

Amazing variety of birds and butterflies in the cloud forest in Mindo, Ecuador. Early this morning we were alerted to a sleeping nocturnal male lyre-tailed nightjar; rare to see due to camouflage and daytime inactivity. Tail feathers twice the length of its body.
