This first summer male Black Redstart, found by Dave Collins, was unexpected at Housel Bay, Lizard today. Black Reds are normally early Spring migrants through Cornwall.

Otherwise it’s been a very quiet and disappointing birding weekend in Cornwall.

Common Crane at Gwithian this morning. Present since end of April when Paul Freestone saw it fly over his house!

It’s also an unringed bird.

Some very nice summer visitors finally arriving today.

Male Whinchat at the stunning Windmill Farm reserve, Lizard and a Garganey and Yellow Wagtail at Marazion. Also saw first Hobby of the year and several Swifts.

This morning’s Great White Egret at Marazion Marsh, Cornwall.

The last bird reported here was 21st April, so I’m assuming this is a new one in. The blackish bill colour and narrow green around the rear of the eye look very similar to the recent Walmsley bird.…

Marazion Marsh this morning: a smart Great White Egret at the front of the marsh. Given the dark bill colour and absence of the last GWE, I’m thinking this is a new bird in?

Plus a Yellow Wagtail and 60+ Sand Martin.

A bright Blue-headed Wagtail was found today at Sennen, Cornwall. It’s my first flava for the year. Not for trying either. They have been really tricky to connect with.

I wish, Alex. Extinct as a breeder in Cornwall and I’m hearing pretty much on the verge of the same in Devon. Cherish the memories for this little beauty.

Porthgwarra this morning. Less strength to the wind than yesterday but a “two-drop” metoffice forecast means heavy rain.

Two Pomarine Skua and 14 Arctic Tern were the highlights.

Poms were both full adults and in close. Graham the Birder also saw the same two from Mousehole 27 mins…

A nice trip down memory Lane. The UK's second Grey Catbird at Treeve Moor, Sennen gave some stunning views. Can you believe this was back in 2018! Pete Walsh's brilliant footage captures the species namesake call as well. Sound up.

The Woodchat Shrike at Gwynver, Sennen is still present this morning. (8th day). It’s considered to be a first summer female and one of five that have occurred this Spring in Cornwall.
