'I worry that really thinks this is what geopolitics are,a nice, rule-based game where you might get the odd leader who huffs and puffs, but all the other players, nice chaps, will step in and say: “No, you don’t get to do that.”

It's high time such 'conventions' and 'archaic customs' were challenged. They make a nonsense of the received wisdom that the royals are outside of politics.

Surely his goose was cooked long before this 'tipping point'.

Sunak BS in the Sun. 'I believe that all plans are compliant with all our international obligations including the ECHR, but I do believe that border security and making sure that we can control illegal migration is more important than membership of a foreign court...'

In the Independent. What an absolute nonsense.
'The health secretary has said that flights carrying asylum seekers to Rwanda will take off “within weeks” despite being unable to disclose whether the government had found a carrier'.

Great result - people like Braverman will do anything to feel important, but I don't get why the police would now say the Far Right aren't welcome there when they surely would have known in advance about this event.

How shocking - this no doubt highly paid individual not reading a report which could have prevented accusations & prosecutions. 'Very much regrets'. doesn't cut it.

What conference was that being discussed earlier where police were stopping people entering? (Couldn't get Sounds to restart the prog).

I can't get over the chutzpah of Israel writing to 32 leaders asking them to sanction Israel. Some may think they should themselves be sanctioned for levelling Gaza.

This is crazy - first Israeli spokesmen and apologists say there can be no peace without destroying Hamas (a tall order in itself) and now John Bolton says there can't be peace without destroying the Iran regime. This is a contradiction of peace, of course.

'That Truss’s premiership ended explosively is ultimately nobody’s fault but her own. But as with a spoilt child who can’t cope when someone finally says no, some of the blame belongs to those who for years overindulged the Conservative party, however extreme it became'.

'It can’t be that the ideas were bad. It must be that the rightwing press failed in what she has learned to see as their job of spinning whatever old straw they’re tossed into gold, leaving the people too confused to overcome the experts'.

'Everyone – even him – knows he’s operating on borrowed time. There’s no longer anything he can do. Not even to mitigate the losses. The election will be his own personal haunting. His departure will go unmourned...'

And what some of us object to is that non-smokers are effectively banned from drinking/eating outside in warm weather because smoking is allowed on restaurant terraces etc.

I hope your question was rhetorical, Nick Robinson and that you do know that public health was fobbed off onto with the Lansley health 'reforms'. Public health is where the preventative stuff happens and councils have strapped budgets.

Who could have predicted that the number of 'economically inactive' has risen yet again and that short term government cosmetic tinkering hasn't worked? The problem is multifactoral and needs nuanced thinking and considered solutions.
