Our heritage highlight for this week is a washer from a ballista, a Roman artillery weapon that was powered by torsion, a bit like a crossbow.

A twisted cord would have been pulled through this washer and over a wooden rod that once sat in the groove visible at the top.

Our mysterious-looking artefact chosen as this week's heritage highlight is a wooden bung used as a stopper for an amphora, a large ceramic storage vessel often used to store wine, oil or garum (fish sauce).

Our #HeritageHighlight for today is this wonderful Dance Master’s fiddle, produced in the mid-1700s and used in Bath at the time of Beau Nash.

It is only 42cm long and its small size made it easy to transport in the pockets of fashionable coats! 🎵🎶

For this week's heritage highlight, we're sharing this beautiful Roman patera, or pan. It was originally decorated with brightly coloured enamel, depicting Hadrian's Wall as a crenellated line with blocky towers or forts.

For our #Easter heritage highlight, we are sharing an egg! 🥚😃

This teal’s egg was found in a marshy layer over the Great Bath in 1882, showing the Baths were abandoned and gradually filled with silt after the Romans left, with the teal laying its egg in the 5th-6th century CE.

Visit the Roman Baths after hours this Easter weekend and enjoy a glass of something from our bar 🥂. We will be open until 8pm from tonight (Friday) until Monday 1 April. Book tickets in advance. Our bar will be open throughout the Easter holidays serving cold and hot drinks.
