Our big splash in the Financial Times today: just 1 in 4 UK companies that went bust received a going concern warning by Big Four auditors in their final years' accounts. Non-Big Four auditors were even worse. Read the thread from the The Audit Reform Lab below 👇

Since privatisation in 1989, water companies in England have incurred debts of more than £64bn and paid out £78bn in dividends.

Privatised water isn’t working for people or planet.

Tell the Government: bring water into public ownership, now.

The reason we must support these young people is because rightly, they are targeting the biggest emitters of toxic gases burning the planet.

They are targeting the 1%.

If the 1% cut their jet flights, super yacht purchases & luxury lifestyles - emissions cd fall dramatically.

Labour is making a virtue of the fact that its plan for office is to manage a steady ship where nothing will change. That would be a great policy if all was going well, but everything is falling apart all around it, and that means that the actual message is that it has no idea

‘All roads lead back to Westminster’

No, not an SNP soundbite.

Instead, those words belong to UK Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary as he explains why the NHS is in crisis in Wales.

Well worth a listen, and a share.

There are five million or more companies in the UK. That's one for every eight or so people. But there is no company law enforcement agency in this country, so although there is company law that these entities are supposedly required to comply with, there is no one who actually

The cost of compensating victims of the contaminated blood scandal needn’t require cuts in government spending taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/05/2… Don't believe all the hand-wringing and claims of unaffordability that will follow from the publication of the contaminated blood report. The

The callousness and indifference of his claims sickens me - as they will anyone who cares, which is what most people in the NHS do.

Rarely has a man so unsuited to be Secretary of State for Health so desperately wanted that job, with the unfortunate likelihood that he'll get it.

Does he have any clue about what real people think, how they feel, and what they want?

And how does he think that message works for the young, the old and those unable to work? Are they not going to be cared for because they aren't 'viable economic units of production'?

Wes Streeting was telling anyone who would listen this morning that Labour will get people better quicker so that they can get back to work sooner.

Not that they might better better for its own sake. But so that they might get back to increasing GDP.

Starmer, the cuckoo taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/05/1… Like a cuckoo, Starmer has foisted himself into alien territory, ousted its natural occupants, demanded blind loyalty from those who are left, and will then deliver something totally opposite to their best interests. Of course, we have

It's time for organisations to pick up the phone youtu.be/rhGIgRFGDB8?si… How many times have you been told your call matters to a company or government department you're ringing, only to be put on hold again? Are they just lying to us? And isn't time that they really did value

We need proportional representation, now youtu.be/QOCVI9g5skw?si… People in the UK like to think we live in a democracy. But we don't. Not really. When all elections result in just one of two parties winning, we live in a country where rigged elections are the norm, and most of us

When the pursuit of ever greater wealth for the already wealthy is the goal of society something has to break taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/05/1… The Dow Jones Index has hit 40,000 in the surest sign that the US, like the UK, is being hollowed out to make the aheady rich even richer.
