Do you think there should be crime in #kidlit ? If so, how bad can it be?

Are you worried kids can't handle a crime caper or that crime in books may send them the wrong message?

many writers saw the practice of adopting latin and greek words into english as needless and pretentious, but it was hard for english speakers to get past the idea that english was somehow less refined than french or latin. 400 years later, orwell complained about this too:

Animal story, historical fiction ... A great read from Jackie French I loved the different perspectives. I felt touched by both the horse and human stories. Jackie also offers a great section of historical notes that are almost as intriguing as the story. Recommended! #loveozmg

I find the accordion both fascinating and scary. Sort of happy but dark like a clown. I used to have one.

The main sort of freebie competition I enter is a book giveaway. I get more excited about winning free books than anything else - holidays, clothes, electronics, homewares, movie tickets, food.

If you haven't read #EmilytheStrange I really recommend it.

She loves cats.
She's not afraid to be different.

This is so true. We have to keep reminding ourselves not everyone will like our work, sometimes even our nearest (family/friends) won't get it.

But if it's what's true to you, that's what matters. Someone out there probably will like it but if they don't ... You do. You matter.

I love a book that makes me think.

I want to write books that make others think. Even for half a second is worthwhile!

Orwell's 1984 is fantastic, a classic, but I don't think Winston Smith is a likable character at all.

One of the best books I've read this year, recommended to me by a 6th grader. Lenny's Book of Everything Karen A family book, about coping with differences, took me back to when I eagerly devoured Childcraft encyclopedias! Emotional without feeling forced or sentimental.
