Today is #Somerset Day !
This celebration is in honour of King Alfred.
It commemorates his gathering of the #Somerset people, to battle and defeat the invading Danes in May 878.
By the time of his death he was the dominant ruler in England.

It is wonderful that our great county was honoured this way.
The Earls of Derby have been huge figures throughout many centuries of the events, heritage and history of #Lancashire .
Every County has its County Day. In Middlesex we commemorate the sacrifice made by the Middlesex Regiment Middlesex Regiment over the centuries. This Sat May 11 at the beautiful Middlesex Chapel in St Paul's Cathedral 10.30 am there is a service to their immortal memory. You're invited.

Today is #Staffordshire Day !
This county day falls on the anniversary of #JosiahWedgwood setting up his pottery company in 1759.
The first official #Staffordshire Day took place in 2016, the year the county turned 1,000 years old.
