my political rigour isn’t from any form of idealism, but watching our ppl who in spite of the brutality, resourcefully built & organised for each other. Ive seen what community mobilising does. Abolition & community safety not as theory but already witnessed & practiced in ends

Watching #Defiance reminds us that our communities mobilised & built community responses for their safety. Some of the stories my parents & elders on our estate would share are so painful & lots of shame in the poverty, trauma, pain & violence. I hope they know we are proud ❤️ 4/

4. That state and police violence is not lesser, if is more insidious and institutionalised. Deaths by distress, disability, sickness, poverty - all forms of slow and bureaucratic violence kills us too.

The #Defiance series on Chanel 4 is important watching for activists/organisers and there’s a things we have to hold to get a fuller political frame -this is ALL our political work, not just film makers. We gotta be past projecting one effort to do all the things, WE build in 1/5

Pleased #Defiance has initiated conversations. A lot left unsaid too: Asian Youth in the 70s/80s inherited a recent history of colonialism and partition from their parents and grandparents. We also joined the dots about the Irish, S. Africa, Palestine and Civil Rights in US .

Waited until tonight to watch Ep3 of #Defiance . Landmark TV. Triggering but so thankful to Rajesh Thind shaminder nahal & team for making it. Shared with colleagues Juno Women's Aid I wait to see the response if any.
