On this day in 1940, Operation Dynamo was ordered to commence. Initiated as a rescue mission to extract troops from Dunkirk, all available RAF aircrafts were deployed to protect the evacuation with 338,000 troops rescued from Dunkirk between 26th May and 4th June 1940.

On the night of 16th May to the early morning of 17th May 1943, the RAF, specifically 617 Squadron, led an ambitious bombing raid to destroy three dams in the Ruhr valley in Germany deploying the bouncing bomb.

Last week, RBLI's Lifeworks course welcomed veterans to a new course in Oxfordshire, funded and hosted by Milestone Infrastructure.
