Professor Ian Civil was invited to deliver the Sir Edward (Weary) Dunlop Memorial Lecture and celebrated military surgeons and leaders Sir Edward (Weary) Dunlop and Sir Arthur Porritt. He was awarded the Broze medal for the lecture by RACS President Kerin Fielding.

Well-deserved acknowledgment tonight for Ally Chen and the RACS conference and events team for all their hard work and support in making the ASC such a success.

'Who wouldn't want to be part of an organisation that advocates for surgeons and patients?' asked Dr Andrew Connolly, CMO, Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau. In a plenary session yesterday, Dr Connolly said RACS has a unique voice as an umbrella for the surgical profession.

'When you're a humanitarian, you can't take sides,' says Professor Angus Watson, who volunteers his time and surgical expertise to help communities in conflict zones around the world, including Ukraine and Gaza. He was speaking at the RACS ASC: racs-asc.arinex.one/program/?event…

Dr Maxine Ronald reminded attendees of this morning's plenary session of RACS' role in advocating in support of surgeons and their patients. After the mosque shootings in Ōtautahi Christchurch on 2019, the College was quick to call for measures to minimise firearms-related harm.

A great turnout at the Indigenous Breakfast. As RACS Indigenous Committee Chair Ben Cribb said, the future for Indigenous surgeons is bright. A greater diversity of surgeons brings improved health equity. Congratulations to our Indigenous award winners.
