Today, we remember and honour the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people across Canada and we recognize the need for social and political change to address the epidemic of violence against them.

We were pleased to meet with housing minister Sean Fraser's office yesterday, to discuss the Renters' Bill of Rights – a key measure in Canada's Housing Plan that could meaningfully protect renters’ rights.

We look forward to supporting its development in the coming months.

We welcome the $1.5B Rental Protection Fund announced in Budget 2024, which will help non-profits buy & maintain affordable homes.

✅We will also continue to advocate w/ the fed govt to scale up social housing & other measures to prioritize those in greatest housing need!

Last year, 100s hundreds of ppl across Canada shared their stories about the harmful practices of unregulated private landlords.

Measures from Budget 2024 must:
✅Protect tenants
✅Rein in rising rents
✅Improve affordability criteria

Too often, laws in Canada resort to eviction as the sole answer to address tenancy issues, disregarding their #Right2Housing obligations.

It's critical for provinces to follow Office of the Federal Housing Advocate's directives & enact legislation recognizing AND upholding housing as a human right.

Housing is a human right—which means eviction should never be the default. ⬇️Stronger tenant protections that prevent unnecessary eviction is urgently needed all across Canada.

The fed gov allocated $250M to address encampments in Budget 2024—yet experts say this is not enough.

⏰The gov has until Aug 31 to answer the Federal Housing Advocate's call for a National Encampments Response Plan.
