Hon. Hon Dr Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi., Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs launched the fourth edition of the Makerere Run, MAK Run 2024 today at the Freedom Square. Thank you Hon. Barugahara for offering to mobilise alumni and friends of Makerere to participate in the MAK Run.

At the conference of the Australia Africa Universities Network (AAUN) conference at the University of Mpumalanga, South Africa, the matter of SDGs and sustainability has been emphasised by all speakers. We must collaborate in order to ensure sustainability.

I was amazed at the architecture of the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in South Africa, the only grass thatched airport I have visited. A wonderful demonstration of matching architecture with the surrounding landscape.

This afternoon I have received H.E. Maj. Gen. Paul K. Simuli, High Commissioner of Tanzania to Uganda on his first official visit to Makerere University. We have discussed opportunities for collaboration between Mak and the High Commission of Tanzania.

I have discussed opportunities for collaboration between RUFORUM and the Alliance for African Partnership (AAP), with RUFORUM Executive Secretary Prof. Patrick Okori and AAP Director Prof. Richard Mkandawire. All efforts must be made to ensure food security for Africa.
