Currently in talks with Buxton Crescent to do a talk on Eleanor Coade and possible book things with them. All of this came about by attending my first Georgian Ball there last year. Sometimes things really do work out and from now on, proves I should dress as a Georgian more. 😂

A bit of sparkle for Friday. Taken this morning on Glastonbury Tor about an hour after sunrise. I went up twice today, once at sunrise and then to take this one.

Great Britain.

Sweet Evening Dress, 1821-23.

Muslin with cutwork decoration, silk ribbon. Machine woven and hand sewn.
Would have been worn over a silk underdress, probably of a bright colour.

My niece (Year 10) is about to start a module at school on Jack the Ripper.
I’m lending her this.

Because 🙋‍♀️

And I’ve told her: if anyone tries to tell you that Jack’s victims were just ‘women of the night’ you can hit them with this book 📚

The coronation portrait of William III and Mary II. They were crowned on this day in 1689, as joint monarchs, though Mary would cede executive power to her husband.

So, Dr Eleanor Janega and I are doing an episode of Gone Medieval to (try to) explain everything you ever wanted to know about medieval churches - the buildings, the people working within, odd terms you might here. If you’ve got any burning questions, here’s your chance!

Fascinating reading today all about the firm H&M Rayne who began in the 1890s as theatrical costumers before turning to high end shoe design, favoured by three Queens in the c20th. These fabulous boots belonged to the performer Kitty Lord Museum of London
