Few things I learnt during my PhD which have proved relevant in my job:
1. Don’t rush to answer a question. Take a few seconds to think first.
2. Always try to save money wherever possible. Just because it’s fancy doesn’t mean it’s the best and must be used. #AcademicChatter

If you want to shift to industry from academia, do so within 2yrs of postdoc. Longer you wait, harder it is to get into a bigger starting role just on the basis of “experience” cause industry would still consider you fresher. You’ll just be overqualified for the position offered!

As a mentor, it is YOUR responsibility to teach your mentees how to read and write papers, how to represent data, make presentations, posters for conferences and help them learn before you simply deem them as incompetent and not good enough!

Don’t know who needs to hear this, but you need to put in efforts, develop specific skills like networking with people the right way, fine tuning your CV, when applying for a job! It doesn’t matter if you have a PhD. If you can’t showcase your skills, you won’t be hired.

No matter how good of a speaker you are and how well you know the topic, practice your speech before giving that presentation.

While 70hr/week is bit too much cause work-life balance is important & grind shouldn’t be normalised but most people this generation are averse to working hard. They want to work less, get paid more. One cannot reach pinnacle of success in luxury, it needs efforts, & a lot of it!

Looking for candidates (non-PhD) with an immunology background, experienced in flow cytometry particularly. 1-2yrs of academic/job experience after Master’s are preferred. Reply below!

Dear freshers, trying to get into a job or lab: before you email a professor or ask for a referral, or write an application, PLEASE RESEARCH THE PLACE; what the professor works on, what the company goals are. Don’t blindly apply, it creates a very negative impression about you.
