The “Safety of Rwanda” bill was passed by the UK Parliament: both UN Human Rights and UNHCR are very concerned by this decision, which breaches refugee law and won’t help address the challenges of irregular population movements.

Tory MPs have just voted again to insist that Afghans who worked for our armed forces & who put their own lives at risk for our country can be sent to Rwanda.

Against military advice.

And against the pledges Ministers made to support those who supported us

I see the UK government has, under pressure finally had to reveal the cost of sending a refugee to Rwanda. £1.8 million per person. For that same cost of ONE individual an entire refugee processing centre could be built and staffed in France solving the boats problem overnight.

The Rwanda Act passing marks a sad day for the UK - a bad plan based on undermining the rule of law by relying a legal fiction that Rwanda is safe for asylum seekers - and an inhumane policy. Now let’s see what the courts say

Commons will vote again today on whether to send Afghans who served alongside British armed forces to Rwanda.

People who put their lives at risk helping UK & who UK Govt promised to help in return.

Truly, truly shameful that Tory MPs are insisting they go. Govt must rethink

Great thought piece from David Lammy in Foreign Affairs

People from the Global South reading this, will think finally someone gets it. 'A progressive realism worth its name begins by being honest about assumptions the West made in the past that turned out to be wrong.'

Britain owes a debt of gratitude to the Afghans who fought bravely alongside British armed forces for a better future, and to the Afghan women and girls facing a bleak future.

Suggestions that they will be deported from Pakistan to Afghanistan are deeply worrying 👇

Thank you for all your messages of support over this divisive letter. Thousands of pounds have been spent on this and the matter is being looked into by the Police.

Choose hope and unity over fear and division by voting for me and Sadiq Khan on May 2nd.

Don't let hate win.

Great work by Sarah in calling this out. My experience of trying to get British Council workers out of Afghanistan is similar.

Uninterested responses from the Conservatives have left many Afghans to the face the whims of the Taliban’s warped ideology. It’s unforgivable.
