Not only did end the longest unbeaten run in League One - 16 games going back to New Years Day - but they prevented ⁦Lincoln City FC 🇺🇦⁩ from setting a club record 7 successive home clean sheets. Plus they’ve now scored against every side in the division this season.

50 years ago today I took a day off my journalism studies to hear Roger Day open Piccadilly Radio (Manchester). Twiggy ⁦read out my name + even replied to my letter. 6 months later I was on Radio City (Liverpool) in its opening week at the start of a lifetime on the wireless.

Paul Rowley Also seems to be a fixation with some national newspapers to get BBC into a story somehow. In this case giving a wrong impression. Journalism that falls well below Paul’s standards.

Presumably the thinking is this. If you put “BBC” in the intro it’ll get more “hits” on social media as the leading national broadcaster than the many commercial radio ventures Paul was involved in. It’s misleading + inaccurate. And I say that as someone who spent 28 years there.

Paul Chantler would be equally amused, flattered + irritated by his obituaries. The Mirror described him as “BBC Radio executive”. The Express says the commercial radio veteran was a “BBC Radio star”. They need to read Paul’s excellent journalism guides.

Paul Chantler spent most of his life in commercial radio, serving some time as an executive. He also presented on BBC Wiltshire Sound 35 years ago . But he wasn’t a “BBC radio executive”. I can just see him telling would-be journalists : “This is not the way to write this story”

The radio industry has lost a giant in Paul Chantler. His mastery of so many elements of our trade - news, music, programming, presentation, the law - made him the perfect panellist at a conference I chaired last autumn marking the Golden Jubilee of commercial radio. RIP Paul.

A lady called Caroline is now a pensioner, but she’s still rocking. On Easter Saturday 1964 Radio Caroline opened, defying the Government, challenging the BBC + revolutionising UK broadcasting. ⁦The Legendary Real Radio Caroline⁩ is still on air on its 60th birthday. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…
